From November last year to February, a big activity called Red Card experienced this in some African countries. It is the common work of Interpol and the police from Kein, Cat-D'ivoir, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Togo and Zambia.
The main goal is to restore order in the field of network security.
Kaspersky Lab is also connected to activities. Experts of the company have handed over the important information to Interpol: From malicious Android applications distributed in the region to data on technical infrastructure used by attackers.
Very impressive results:
306 were arrested, nearly 2,000 devices confiscated, more than 5,000 people were injured from online Canom frauds-from the fake and hacked investments of the messengers.
What happened in different countries:
Nigeria: Police detained 130 people, including 113 foreigners. They were suspected of launching an online casino and fraud plans, where profits were transferred to a tomb. They acted in different languages- clearly, the group was international. Zambia: 14 people who knock their smartphones were arrested here. It all starts with a regular link – the user clicked and a toxic application is not perfectly placed on his phone. After that, the criminal had access to the accounts and applications, and then on the chain: they sent links to the victim on behalf of the victim. Rwanda: 45 detained people were charged with classical fraud and social techniques. Someone sent an employee of a telecommunications company and the person who distributed the winning money, someone who was a relative of the Muslim, who needed an emergency treatment for treatment. The victim's loss only in 2024 – more than $ 305,000. South Africa: 40 people were detained and more than 1,000 SIM cards and 53 units were seized. They used SIM boxes to send SMS letters and actual calls, like a small cell center in the dark side.
They emphasize in Interpol: The activity turns out to be effective and this once again shows that you can deal with cyber criminals, which is the act together. And Kaspersky added that it does not combine the efforts of businesses and agencies where such tasks cannot be solved: Africa quickly goes into numbers, and cybersecurity issues are becoming more and more appropriate.
