This was stated in the statement published by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry after a meeting of foreign policy officers, taking place in Rio de Janeiro from April 28 to 29.
“They also confirm the support of long -term stability of operations in space and prevent the arms race in its space and militaryization, as well as threats to use force against objects in space, including negotiations on the application of relevant multilateral legal tools,” the document said.
In addition, the participants of the meeting “realize the need to ensure the use of spatial systems and achievements in space technologies for peaceful purposes”.
The BRICS group was founded in 2006, in 2011, South Africa participated in the original component (Brazil, Russia, India and China). Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia became full participants in the Association on January 1, 2024. On January 6, 2025, Indonesia joined Brix.
